There’s a unique new shop coming to Dallas where gents can get a haircut while nursing a glass of whiskey.
Scissors & Scotch, a men’s barber shop complete with full-service bar and private lounge, is making its Texas debut with two locations in the Dallas area, including one in Uptown at Crescent Court. It’s going into a space facing Maple Avenue, across from Moxie’s, and is slated to open in early May.
A second location will open later in 2019 at Grandscape, the mixed-use development in The Colony.
Hair salons that also serve alcohol have become a hot national trend in the past few years. In Dallas there’s High & Tight, an indie place that opened in Deep Ellum in 2015, as well as 14 locations around DFW of The Boardroom, which serves complimentary beer.
Scissors & Scotch was founded in Omaha, Nebraska in 2015, as an effort to improve the salon experience for men. It now has locations in five states, offering haircuts, shaves, trims, waxing, spa services, and shoe shines.
Every service comes with a free drink from their full-service lounge and bar — although you don’t get the drink until after your service is complete. The reasoning being that you should be savoring your service experience in a cogent and sober fashion. Obviously, this is wrong reasoning, but they’re the ones pouring the drink, so this is not for us to say.
Their lounges are manly with lots of woods and leather sofas and a fully stocked bar with craft beers and cocktails; the old-fashioned is the most popular drink. And you don’t need to get a haircut to enjoy the lounge.
In addition to traditional barbering services, each shop offers membership programs that provide discounts, free upkeeps, guest passes, access to scotch and beer tastings, and more.
Haircuts include a steamed towel and neck shave and start at $48.
The group bringing S&S to Dallas is a family business led by Kevin Hart, an Omaha resident who was one of the first to become a member at the original location.
“I just fell in love with the atmosphere and everything that goes with it,” Hart says. “I would tell all my friends how amazing it was. I get the 15-year service regularly and the stylists always do a fantastic job. The bar is a great place for making friends and networking. A lot of people go in just to enjoy a cocktail, or come in and sit and work.”
The chain currently has locations in Omaha, Denver, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, and Olathe, Kansas, and an Austin location is also in the works.
